The international basketball world was stunned to hear that on October 9 Chauncey Hardy, who played for the Romania club CSS Giurgiu, died after suffering a blow to the head in a bar. An arrest has been made in the case and the doctors have been charged with negligence, but all of that does not change the fact that a basketball player died while overseas. That fact alone rocks many of us who live this life deep to the core.
Today is Chauncey Hardy’s funeral in Middleton, Connecticut. Just a few weeks ago he was a healthy 23- year old playing professional basketball and now many are mourning his death. It is but another reminder that life is not as it should be here on earth. We are here for such a brief time…and how brief none of us knows.
My heart goes out to his family that is mourning for him not only today, but will be for a lifetime. According to the obituary, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the Chauncey Hardy Memorial Fund (Address and info. found on the obituary) or sign the guest book and share your thoughts. A group of basketball players and wives are also raising up a gift for his family through Behind the Backboard. The money given there is not tax deductible, but another way to give a gift for his family.
Life is so short and can not only end, but easily be altered in an instant. It is difficult for us to remember that as we go throughout our daily lives. May we pray God would make us mindful that every moment is a gift from Him today,
