FAQ: Do Your Kids Have Friends While Living Abroad?

If you asked Abby, she would inform you that she has many friends wherever we live.  She doesn’t seem to lack for self-confidence when it comes to the area of other kids liking her!  In reality, our kids don’t have a whole lot of friends in the traditional sense of the word.  Abby has two cousins at home her are her best friends and Elijah has a neighbor and son our our good friends who he would say is his best friend.  But when we are home, it isn’t like they have tons of play dates lined up.  This is actually ok with us because our time at home is busy with family, church activities and other events.

In our time abroad, they are involved in an activity or two where they get to meet other kids.  Joe’s games are also a great opportunity to interact with other kids.  Our kids love to go to his games more so for the playing on the court with other kids after the games than they do for seeing their Daddy play.

It can be hard to see them not be able to build strong relationships with others though.  The trade-off is the time they get together with each other and us that when we are home dramatically decreases.  This lifestyle does make us tighter as a family, which are the relationships we pray will last for a lifetime.
