Funky Beds

As I was changing our bed sheets this morning, I was laughing as I thought about all the “unique” sheets and comforters we have had overseas. When we first started coming over, I always brought our own sheets. I actually used to bring a lot more than I bring now that I have 3 children to pack for. I have had to suck it up and pay for things that we now leave behind, like sheets and comforters. But early on we had our own sheets and would sometimes use the comforters the team would provide us if it didn’t look like it was in too bad of shape (totally grosses me out now though!)

As we have grown as a family though, we have started just buying our sheets and comforters here. Since this can get expensive, we typically just buy what we can find at the larger grocery stores in the city. So we have ended up with some very interesting looks! Here is a look back on our beds:

Athens, Greece, 2003 (what can I even say?):

Zaragoza, Spain, 2007 (the man who owned the apartment bought us all new comforters and sheets…and yes, he also provided us with “The Boss” poster above our bed!):

Bandirma, Turkey, 2008 (We picked up this beauty at the grocery store):

Brindisi, 2009 (it was back to the grocery store once again where this bright orange/bright blue reversible number was actually the most normal we could find!):

Cute post! The Springsteen poster provided by your landlord is hilarious!

  2. Maria says:

LOL! You have me reminiscing about some of our oldie but goodies. I don’t think I took pictures of our bedroom though… Hmm… I might have to go back and look.

This is funny. Now that I think about it, we’ve had some pretty crazy looking bedding too. The colors are always really bright, the pillow cases never match, and we can never seem to find fitted sheets so we end up just tucking the corners under and making do.

  4. Alexandra says:

Love it, especially the Springsteen poster. We need one of those for our room!

  5. Andrea says:

What a cool idea! We have had some nasty, ugly stuff in our day too! We are too cheap to buy anything though. Next year we might have to b/c I don’t know if I can take another year of it.

    Erin,

This had me smiling. Oh man… aside from when we lived in a newly constructed hotel in New Zealand, we’ve had some interesting color combinations in the bedding department. And I laughed about purchasing linen in the grocery store because we have also! And the size of the comforters is usually not big enough for Mike and I to share without someone getting left out in the cold in the middle of the night… so we’ve even had two different patterned comforters on one bed. :)

And Andrea, we usually also deal with what’s given, except I have to get towels. I always feel gross using team issued towels.
