Sling Box

We just recently discovered a product for those living overseas. It is called Sling Box and is a way for you to view your television through the internet. This is not new, but something we just recently decided to check out. While we were here in Turkey last season, Joe was really missing watching the NBA. So after a little research, Joe found about about Sling Box and asked my dad about paying them to have it set up on their satellite. So my dad had an extra box for his Comcast that would cost $10 a month. After the Sling Box was purchased the men (Joe, dad and my brother) got it set up. And we had cable for the first time since we got married (we had never bothered having it at home since there always seemed to be not enough time to do what we wanted, let alone watch television).

Joe has enjoyed catching up on ESPN and we have even watched some NFL Sunday afternoon football in the evenings over here.  My dad just recently got a bonus and decided to bless his kids with some of the money from that (as he always does when he gets a bonus).  So he is buying us a DVR box so we can tape things (since we are 7 hours different) and is also purchasing the full NBA package so Joe can see any NBA game he wants.  This also required my dad canceling all his internet and cable and going with Verizon and Direct Tv now.  This really is a wonderful gesture for Joe especially because part of his job is watching the game and constantly learning .  Of course, now Joe is pushing to get the Sling Catcher, but I don’t know if I am ready to go there!

Another basketball family just ordered the catcher. Maybe they’ll have some ideas on if it is worth it in a few months? http://lindsayandwesineurope.blogspot.com/
